Musicians
    (1983-2002)
    Formed in Queens, New York
    Run (Joseph Simmons)
    DMC (Darryl McDaniels)
Jam Master Jay (born Jason Mizell)
Recorded 'It's Like That / Sucker M.C.'s,' 'Rock Box,' '30 Days,' 'King of Rock,' 'Raising Hell,' 'Tougher Than Leather,' 'Back From Hell,' 'Down With the King' and 'Crown Royal'
Appeared in the movie 'Krush Groove' and 'Tougher Than Leather'
They are always seen wearing black leather jackets, black hats and Adidas shoes, or 'kicks' as they call them.
They appeared alongside the Fat Boys in 'Krush Groove.'
Their album 'Tougher Than Leather' was a disappointment because political rappers like Public Enemy were more in demand by the mainstream.
The band was plagued throughout the late 80's with personal issues, as Darryl was an alcoholic and Run was accused of rape.
After conquering their late 80's demons (Darryl sobered up and the charges against Run were dropped), the group became born-again Christians (what a surprise).
They spent 7 years after releasing 'Down With the King' to release a follow-up record.
Darryl and Run have appeared alongside LL Cool J in Dr. Pepper commercials since Jam Master Jay's death.
Run is Russell Simmons' younger brother.
They were the first rap group to put together full-fledged albums.
They were rapping over metal music before Faith No More and Biohazard.
They performed at Live Aid (1985).
Their album 'Raising Hell' was the first rap album to reach #1 on the R&B charts, sell over a million units and reach the Top Ten.
    They helped popularize Adidas.
They revived Aerosmith's career when they collaborated with them on 'Walk This Way.'
Their collaboration with Kid Rock and Aerosmith at the 1999 MTV VMA's is considered one of the greatest moments on MTV TV history.
Jam Master Jay was murdered in a studio in Queens (2002).
They were awarded by VH1's Big in 2002 Awards as the greatest rappers of all time (November 2002).
