    Defenseman for the St. Louis Blues (1973-77)
    He made a decision to ride a motorcycle, after drinking a substantial amount of alcohol.
    He wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
    He ignored pleas by teammate Garry Unger, who tried to advise him that riding a motorcycle while intoxicated was dangerous.
    He led the Blues in penalty minutes for three consecutive seasons.
    He holds the Blues franchise record for most penalty minutes in a single season (306 in 1974-75).
    He died two months before his son was born.
    He was the first player in the history of the Blues franchise to have his number retired (October 1, 1977).
    Following his death, the Central Hockey League created the Bob Gassoff trophy, which is presented annually to the league's best defenseman.
    He earned the Blues Most Improved Player award (1974-75).
    He was considered a scrappy defenseman by former coaches and teammates.
    His accident and death were considered one of the most devastating events in Garry Unger's life.
