Why he might be annoying
He said on a Boston TV program that Jason Kidd's wife, an alleged victim of domestic abuse, needed someone to 'smack her.'
He was given several chances to retract his comment on the show, but declined.
He was suspended by the Boston Globe for a month without pay and was not allowed to do radio or TV appearances.
He became a TV sports reporter in the early 80s, but hated it, and came back to the Globe.
He has weird hair.
Why he might not be annoying
He apologized a few days later for his comment.
Many top sportswriters look up to him as a mentor figure.
He has written several books on Boston Celtics greats.
He won the NSSA Award for Best Sportswriter in 2000.
