The Resume

    (July 22, 1957- )
    Born in Santa Ana, California
Starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays (1979–1992, 1998) and Chicago White Sox (4 games, 1993)
    American League All-Star team (1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1990)
Pitched the Blue Jays’ first no-hitter, against the Cleveland Indians (3-0, September 2, 1990)
Author of ‘Tomorrow I’ll Be Perfect (1986)’
Awarded the Level of Excellence (1996)

Why he might be annoying:

He was prone to talking to himself while on the mound.
Though his team made it to the World Series that year (1992), he never played in it.
He was within three outs of a no-hitter on two consecutive occasions (1988) and a perfect game on one other (1989).
He went into a five-year retirement due to back problems (1993).
During his final year with the Jays, he pitched in 19 games, started three, won one, and saved two.

Why he might not be annoying:

He specialized in the brushback, a pitch designed to force batters into retreat without hitting them.
His seven All-Star appearances were a record for anyone in a Blue Jays uniform.
In 1985, he signed a contract with the team that was generous by that year’s standards but ultimately became a bargain.
Among other things, he led the Blue Jays in wins (175), strikeouts (1,658), complete games (103 of 408), and shutouts (30).
