Why A.C.L.U. might be annoying
Their members are mostly lawyers!
Until 1940, many of its leaders were members of the Communist Party.
Many of their ads target the emotions and established biases of the viewer rather than using logical arguments.
They oppose any public celebration of Christmas (a federal holiday).
They legally defend NAMBLA, GLAAD, Fred Phelps, the Klu Klux Klan, the Nation of Islam and Neo-Nazis but refused to defend a teacher who wore a cross necklace.
They contradict their own philosophy by supporting public smoking bans.
Its leadership often uses the ACLU's clout to further their own political agendas.
It supports legalization of drug use despite studies showing that drugs are a major cause of crimes and injuries.
It constantly harasses the police when they arrest minorities.
It opposes a constitutional amendment protecting the American flag.
Why A.C.L.U. might not be annoying
It played a huge role in fighting racial segregation.
ACLU lawyers fought the blanket internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.
In 1939, they helped ensure a court ruling that public places such as parks and streets belong to the citizenry rather than the government.
It helped evolution to enter the school curriculum.
It has an instrumental role in advancing and protecting women's rights.
It started out as an organization honestly committed to protecting peoples' constitutional rights.
