    Appeared in 'Going Wild (1930),' 'Bright Lights (1925),' 'A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935),' 'Fit for a King (1937),' 'Joan of Ozark (1942),' Pin-Up Girl (1944),' 'Show Boat (1951),' 'Around the World in 80 Days (1956)' and 'It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963)'
    Starred on Broadway in 'Jim Jam Jems'
    As he put it, he ran away from home as a kid with his parents' blessing.
    He was simply credited as 'Joe' in a few films.
    He wrote an autobiography.
    Most of his films were B-grade box office disasters.
    He was known for his huge, friendly grin.
    During World War II, he entertained U.S. troops overseas.
    His son, a pilot, died in World War II during a training flight.
    In 'Some Like It Hot,' he uttered one of the most famous closing lines in movie history ('Well, nobody's perfect').
