Why he might be annoying
He smoked non-stop.
He had the prototype '50s look, dark suit, skinny dark tie, white shirt and thick glasses frames.
He collected his $55 weekly unemployment check in the morning and recorded 'My Son the Folk Singer' that evening (1961).
Why he might not be annoying
He sang parodies at Hollywood parties while unemployed and was encouraged to record them (1961).
He wrote an obscene parody honoring a retiring executive at Warner Brothers Records, to be played at his stag retirement party. The executives were so impressed they signed him to a contract (June 1962).
His first album 'My Son the Folk Singer' was recorded in front of 100 of his friends, all in one forty-five minute take (August 6, 1962).
'My Son the Folk Singer' was the then fastest selling album, it sold 900,000 copies and shot to #1.
