He was charged with disorderly conduct and vandalism for breaking a paper towel holder at a convenience store (February 14, 2009).
Later in 2009, he was cited again public intoxication after a game against the Cleveland Browns (October 18, 2009).

In high school, he was involved with the school newspaper, the National Honors Society and the Spanish National Honors Society.
He was one of the top 20 semi-finalists for the Lou Groza Award.
He was teammates with Willie Parker both at UNC and with the Steelers.
He is the second highest scoring placekicker in Steeler history behind Gary Anderson.
His charity "Kicks for Kids' donates $300 for every kick he does at a game.
He wore pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
