The Resume
(April 4, 1850- )
Most populous city in California
Second most populous city in the U.S.
First explored in 1769
Founded in 1781
Nicknamed 'City of Angels'
Why Los Angeles, California might be annoying
It has some of the worst air quality in the U.S.
It has earthquakes, mud slides, floods, fires, and riots.
It has some of the most confusing freeway interchanges in the country.
Freeway traffic always seems congested.
It hosted the 1984 Summer Olympics, which were boycotted by 62 nations, among them the then-Soviet Union and many other 'Eastern bloc' nations.
Its official name is El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula, or E.P.D.N.S.L.R.D.L.A.D.P. for short.
Its bumbling police department has been ridden with scandals of corruption and alleged racism.
San Fernando Valley, a section of Los Angeles, is home to 'Valley Girls.'
The south central part of the city features a lot of gang activity.
It lost both of its pro football teams in 1995 when the Rams moved to St. Louis and the Raiders moved to Oakland.
It has too many area codes to keep track of.
Why Los Angeles, California might not be annoying
It has great weather year-round; mildly warm summers, mildly cool winters, hardly ever rains.
It has some nice beaches, and great surfing.
Baseball's Dodgers only won one World Series while in Brooklyn, but since moving to L.A., they've won five.
The Los Angeles Lakers have won the NBA title nine times since moving there.
It's the only American city to host the Summer Olympics twice (1932, 1984).
Hollywood, a section of Los Angeles, is the birthplace of the modern movie industry, and was the leading producer of movies worldwide until Bombay, India, surpassed it.
It is extremely ethnically diverse; you can find large numbers of White, African-American, Hispanic, Asian, Jewish, and Canadian people in L.A.
It gives New York a run for its money.
