Why he might be annoying:

He was a series regular on the fiasco that was Manimal.
His attempt at his own starring USA show (Sanchez of Bel Air) lasted only thirteen episodes.
He was unable to capitalize on his breakout starring role in Enter Laughing (although now a cult film, at the time critics lambasted it).
After his second starring vehicle (A Great Thing) bombed, he was relegated to supporting roles - usually ethnic antagonists.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was of French and Spanish heritage.
He got his start in entertainment as a comedy writer.
He wanted to be a sports journalist and even played professional baseball for a short time.
He made guest appearances on numerous shows including Hawaii Five-O, Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue.
He saw a resurgence among younger generations of audiences from his recurring role as an unsanitary restaurateur on Seinfeld.
He found a second career as a movie voice actor, most famously in the 'Doctor Dolittle' films.
