Outlaw

The Resume

    (January 22, 1831-March 10, 1864)
    Born in Carlyle, Illinois
Birth name was Joseph Alfred Slade
    Western gunslinger
    Former stagecoach driver and superintendent

Why he might be annoying:

He allegedly killed 26 men, but that's probably an exaggeration.
He killed Jules Beni by tying him to a stake and using him for target practice.
He then allegedly cut off one of Beni's ears and used it as a watch fob.
The 'Desseret News' called him the 'terror of all the settlers between Pacific Springs and Julesberg.'
When drunk, he would ride through town wildly shooting his guns.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Mexican-American War.
Beni had earlier ambushed him and left him for dead.
Mark Twain met him and described him as 'so friendly and so gentle-spoken... in spite of his awful history.'
His reputation and his drinking caught up with him when vigilantes in Virginia City, Montana, lynched him for disturbing the peace.
