    Author of ‘You Can’t Print That,’ ‘The Catholic Crisis,’ ‘Witch Hunt,’ ‘Facts and Fascism,’ ‘The People Don’t Know,’ ‘Never Tired of Protesting,’ ‘Even the Gods Can’t Change History’ and ‘Witness to a Century’
    Almost all his books revolved around the same subject, of him witnessing history.
    His coverage of World War I gave sympathetic portrayals of German soldiers.
    While covering World War I, he was told to tell the glory stories, and was criticized by John J. Pershing for giving too much sympathy to the Germans.
    He had a difficult time getting his work published because he was blacklisted.
    After he interviewed Vladimir Illyich Lenin, he was expelled from Russia because Lenin didn’t like the way he was reported.
    He was expelled from Italy after writing an article criticizing Benito Mussolini.
    He lived through almost the entire twentieth century, and died at 104.
    He is a hero to journalists who have been censored by the government.
    He kept writing up until a year before his death.
