The Resume

    (March 29, 1942-October 6, 2018)
    Born in Thomasville, Georgia
Birth name was William Delano Wilson
Portrayed Sam Braun on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2001-06) and Hershel Greene on The Walking Dead (2011-14)
Appeared in the films ‘In the Heat of the Night’ (1967), ‘In Cold Blood’ (1967), ‘The Great Gatsby’ (1974), ‘The Ninth Configuration’ (1980), ‘The Right Stuff’ (1983), ‘The Exorcist III’ (1990), ‘Dead Man Walking’ (1995), ‘Shiloh’ (1996), ‘Shiloh 2: Shiloh Season’ (1999), ‘Pearl Harbor’ (2001), ‘Monster’ (2003), ‘Junebug’ (2006) and ‘Hostiles’ (2017)

Why he might be annoying:

He received a basketball scholarship to Southern Tech University, but instead of going to college, he hitchhiked to Los Angeles.
He bore a strong resemblance to Dick Hickock, the killer he portrayed in ‘In Cold Blood.’
He noted about the years after his ‘In Cold Blood’ success, ‘I made a lot of silly mistakes. I couldn't bring myself to do a lot of the stuff that was available.’
He had a four-year stretch where he did no acting at all and supported himself as an industrial painter.
He was arrested for driving under the influence and asked the police officer who pulled him over if he could do yoga poses instead of the traditional field sobriety tests (2012).

Why he might not be annoying:

While sharing a scene in ‘The Right Stuff’ with fellow underutilized talent Kim Stanley, she told him, ‘You’re too damn good. They don’t know what to do with you.’
In assessing his acting, he said, ‘I think you always get a credibility out of me. I think you always get a believability out of me.’
He said about his time on ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘It’s good for me to be at my age working with such young, creative people.’
