He risked his life and succeeded in losing it over a stunt.
He was featured on 'Ripley's Believe It or Not.'
His ten foot, one ton, wooden barrel was trapped behind the Falls for fourteen to eighteen hours.
He only had enough oxygen to survive for three hours.
He took along his pet turtle.
Obviously, he picked the wrong good luck charm.

Why he might not be annoying:

Like Jean Lussier, he chose Independence Day to do the foolish stunt.
His 105 year old pet turtle survived the plunge.
He was once a chef in Buffalo, New York.
