Why he might be annoying:

A fan of visiting brothels, he caught syphilis.
He wandered the streets of Ferrara naked.
Reluctant to marry Lucrezia, viewing her as lower class, he agreed only after receiving her ample dowry.
Two of his younger brothers attempted to usurp his authority and were sentenced to death.

He expressed an interest in pottery and alchemy.
His first wife Anna Sforza died in childbirth.
Despite his initial resistance to marrying Lucrezia, he became inconsolable when she also succumbed to post-partum complications.
He was an expert politician and wily military commander.
Under his patronage, Ferrara became a renowned arts center, home to poet Petrarch and painter Titian.
He commuted his brothers' sentences to life in prison.
