Why Match Game might be annoying
It had some of the worst jokes on television.
When the show was brought back in the 1970's, instead of simply calling the show ‘Match Game,' CBS added the name of each year to the title (Match Game '73, Match Game '74, etc.).
It was unsuccessfully brought back by ABC in the early 1990's.
On one episode, after answering ‘Japanese Transistor Radio' for one answer, Charles Nelson Reilly decided to put ‘Japanese Transistor' in front of every answer.
Jenny Jones, who also appeared as a contestant on Press Your Luck, was a contestant on the show before becoming famous.
NBC destroyed most of the original tapes of the show. Only about 11 episodes from the NBC still exist.
In the middle of every question, such as ‘Dumb Dora was so dumb,' the audience would always yell ‘How dumb was she?'
Why Match Game might not be annoying
Gene Rayburn was one of the most unpredictable game show hosts.
It was one of the most popular game shows of it's time.
It was extremely successful over two decades, and on two different networks.
When it was brought back in the 1970's, it began using the sexual innuendo that it's remembered so much for.
If the contestants gave a dumb answer, the audience would boo them.
Host, Gene Rayburn was extremely close friends with panelists Charles Nelson Reilly and Bret Somers.
Baltimore Ravens coach, Brian Billick was a panelist on the show shortly after he was cut from the NFL. He lost badly, and Gene Rayburn joked, ‘Failed at football, failed at Match Game. Where will you go now?' Billick coached the Ravens to win the Super Bowl (2001).
