    He developed the theory of personal idealism.
    He described the St. Louis group (of which he was a member) as '...a collection of vigorous young men, eager to test their intellectual ability against the figure of Hegel.'
    He's a largely forgotten philosopher from the 19th century.
    He made a highly impressive $1,850 per month in 1868.
    He taught at MIT, Harvard Divinity School and set up the philosophy department at Berkeley.
    Michel Foucault and Noam Chomsky have delivered papers in a lecture series set up in his honor.
