U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (September 15, 1969- )
    Born in El Paso, Texas
    Represents Texas's 16th district in the U.S. House of Representatives (January 3, 2019- )
Former County Judge of El Paso County (January 1, 2011–October 10, 2017)
    Democrat

Why she might be annoying:

She called a Republican-controlled Senate 'the greatest threat to our security.'
She won Beto O'Rourke's old House seat, rendering his political future uncertain after his loss in a Senate race he was poised to win (not really her fault, but still).
She was elected freshman class representative in a secret ballot by her peers, replacing Katie Hill, following her resigning in disgrace from Congress.
She refused to meet President Trump on his visit to El Paso following the 2019 shooting, claiming the President is 'not welcome.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She grew up on a dairy farm.
She led protests against the Trump administration's child separation policy during her House run.
She is only the second Hispanic ever to represent Texas' 16th district, and is the first Hispanic woman to do so.
She delivered the Spanish-language response to President Trump's 2020 State of the Union Address.
She attributed her refusal to meet the President to his refusal to apologize for his anti-immigrant rhetoric, saying: 'If we can’t have that dialogue, my feeling was I refuse to be a prop. I’m not going to stand next to him as he pretends to care about what is happening in the community.'
