    He is credited with reviving the Illinois coal industry.
    Bloomberg Magazine dubbed him 'the new King of Coal.'
    He started out as an underground coal miner at twenty-two.
    His first wife died from cancer in 1987.
    He donated collectively over ten million dollars to universities, local charities,and scholarship funds, including to West Virginia University and Mashall University.
    His family was the target of an extortion attempt and terroristic threats, which resulted in the perpetrator being sentenced to seven years in federal prison (2013).
    He died one day short of his sixty-first birthday.
    His twenty-two year-old daughter was killed in the helicopter, along with two of her sorority sisters.
