    Wrote screenplays for ‘Lovers and Other Strangers’ (1970) and ‘Made for Each Other’ (1971)

    He originally planned to be an architect, but decided his sketches were not good enough.
    His wedding to actress Renee Taylor was broadcast on ‘The Merv Griffin Show.’
    They later filmed for shows like ‘Entertainment Tonight’ five ceremonies where they renewed their vows.
    After one of his aunts chastised him over the nudity in ‘Blame It On Rio,’ he said, ‘That’s the last time I invite Aunt Pauline to a film premier.’
    He served a stint in the Marine Corps.
    He defied his Italian background and tough-guy looks to avoid being typecast as gangsters
    He and Renee Taylor were married for 52 years.
    He and Taylor were nominated for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for ‘Lovers and Other Strangers’ (1970) and won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for ‘Acts of Love and Other Comedies’ (1973).
    He joked about frequently working with Taylor, ‘I can have an affair with my director, writer and co-star at the same time. That saves a lot of wear and tear at my age.’
