Student

The Resume

Student of the Covington Catholic High School (Park Hills, Kentucky)
Attended a pro-life March for Life rally with a bus of other students (January 18, 2019)
Filmed smirking in front of Native American rights activist Nathan Phillips during a confrontation between the Covington kids and Black Hebrew Israelite activists near the Lincoln Memorial
Incident received mainstream media attention from People.com, The New York Times, Inside Edition, NPR and USA Today

Why he might be annoying:

His last name sounds like the mythical 'Sand Man.'
He went to an all-boys school - which brought his classmates on a field trip to a Pro-Life march.
He was accused of disrespecting an Indian tribal elder while his friends jeered in the background (did we mention they were wearing Make America Great Again hats?)
His family hired a PR firm after he attained viral infamy.
His Today Show interview brought criticisms toward Savannah Guthrie about her journalistic objectivity (she didn't interview Nathan Phillips - the other half of the story - until the next day).
His lawsuit for $250 million against Washington Post was dismissed by a federal judge (July 2019).

Why he might not be annoying:

He came off as respectful and contrite during his Today Show interview.
Several celebrities deleted tweets calling for him and his classmates to be either doxxed (Kathy Griffin) or physically harmed (Reza Aslan).
He looks like Zachary Gordon from the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' franchise.
The snippet of footage showing the confrontation was out of context and was misleading.
He and his family received death threats on social media after his identity was revealed.
He showed composure during a tense confrontation (although smirking) and actually was shown as trying to deescalate the situation in other clips.
His lawsuit was reopened after his lawyers amended the initial complaint, allowing the case to proceed for further evidence discovery (October 2019).
His attorney claimed that a settlement was reached in his lawsuit against CNN (January 2020).
