The Resume

    (June 27, 1949-April 1, 1955)
    Aired on the Dumont network
Premise: Futuristic adventures of Captain Video and his teenage sidekick, the Video Ranger
Richard Coogan (1949-50) and Al Hodge (1950-55) as Captain Video
Don Hastings as the Video Ranger

Why Captain Video and His Video Rangers might be annoying:

Many of the props were obiously slapped together from hardware store odds and ends.
The show's robot 'I TOBOR' was supposed to be called 'ROBOT I,' but the stencil with the name was applied to costume backwards.
Up until 1953, a seven-minute chunk in the middle of the show consisted of old cowboy movie footage passed off as the adventures of Captain Video's 'undercover agents' on Earth.
Only five episodes are known to survive.

Why Captain Video and His Video Rangers might not be annoying:

It was the first science fiction show on TV.
It drew an unexpectedly large adult audience.
As a result, Dumont used it to lead off their prime time schedule five days a week.
A number of big-name sci-fi authors wrote for the series, including Arthur C. Clarke, James Blish, Jack Vance and Damon Knight.
