Golfer

The Resume

    (November 5, 1977- )
    Born in Cincinnati, Ohio
Birth name is James Robert Herman
Former assistant pro at Trump National Bedminster
Played college golf at the University of Cincinnati; turned professional in 2000
Played on the Golden Bear Tour (2001-2004)
Played on the Nationwide Tour in 2008–10; 2012
Qualfied for the Nationwide Tour after finishing T74 at the 2007 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament
Recorded his first PGA Tour victory, in his 106th start, at the Shell Houston Open, shoot a final round of 68 for a 15-under-par total to complete a one shot win over Henrik Stenson (Apr. 3, 2016)

Why he might be annoying:

    His Twitter handle is @gohermie.
He's an Alfred E. Neuman lookalike.
His PGA Tour career was financed by Donald Trump.
His statistics were inconsistent in the years following his PGA debut.
He began his pro golf career at the age of 28; deemed a late start in the professional golf world.
His first attempt to turn Pro, in 2000, was unsuccessful (he underperformed on the Florida mini-tours, eventually taking up employment at a golf shop to support himself).
He teared up during his first post-game interview following his 2016 Shell Houston Open win.
When asked, in a 2009 interview, who he would like to trade places with for a day, he answered: 'Tiger Woods, I've always wondered what's going on in his life I mean, there's just so much more than golf now...' (you don't say!)
In the same interview, he said that his dream 'foursome' would be with Tiger, Trump, and Phil Mickelson (if you're not up on golf terminology that comes off sounding awkward as hell...)

Why he might not be annoying:

His father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease around the same time as he began to make traction as a pro golfer.
He was working as a golf instructor at a country club when he was discovered by Donald Trump.
Trump, who had been tipped by an associate about Herman's skills, encouraged him to pursue a Pro-Golf touring career, even giving him money - with no strings attached - to work towards the goal.
He played alongside Steven Bowditch in the first tee time of Australia's Moonah Classic, shooting a 3-over-par 75 (2010).
He secured a last-minute Masters invite with his first PGA Tour victory.
He was allegedly more nervous playing his first Masters in Augusta than he was in his blowout win in Houston.
This can hardly be surprising when one considers that he fully intended on watching the 2016 Masters from his living room at home, never mind playing in it.
During his Augusta Masters debut, he received an ovation that was overwhelming; applause louder for him than for pros like Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III.
Trump reacted to his win by saying: 'Those guys aren’t pushovers, so it was great see him going down the last fairway... the last three shots, that wasn’t an easy two-putt... He's such a good guy -- a nice person. And he deserves it. Such a great story. He's what America is all about [and] I'm proud of him.'
His perseverance against all odds makes for the quintessential 'Cinderella story' in the world of professional golf (and he's not going around knocking out flowers with a garden tool after a hard day of hunting turf-wrecking gophers).
