Why he might be annoying
His films are experimental and strange.
In his short film 'Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story,' he used Barbie dolls instead of actors.
Carpenter's brother was outraged by the film and sued him over the music rights.
Some fans of the Carpenters loathe him, because of his supposed disrespect for Karen Carpenter.
Some feminists accuse him of trivializing anorexia in the film.
He upset conservatives by showing an erect penis in his film 'Poison.'
He said: 'I am the kind of bisexual who sleeps only with men.'
Why he might not be annoying
He is surprisingly down-to-earth.
'Superstar' is now very hard to find, and is prized by cult cinema fans.
His film 'Far From Heaven' was nominated for many awards.
