Why she might be annoying
She had an extremely violent temper.
Mary worked as a cook for the Warren family in 1906.
After she left, the Warrens fell ill with typhoid fever.
An investigation found Mary to be source of the typhoid.
She was still working as a cook, spreading the disease when investigators found her.
She was exiled to the Riverside Hospital on North Brother Island and spent three years there.
She was released in 1910, even though she still had typhoid fever, and was told not to work as a food preparer anymore.
Five years later, Mary was caught working as a cook at a hospital spreading typhoid once again.
She was sent to Riverside Hospital once again and spent the rest of her life there.
Her typhoid spreading resulted in the deaths of at least three people.
Her name is synonymous with someone who willingly spreads sickness.
Why she might not be annoying
She suffered a stroke (1932).
She may or may not have known she was spreading typhoid.
Although she carried typhoid, she mysteriously never became sick with the disease herself.
She was probably not the evil, conniving disease spreader she is made out to be.
