    Defenseman for the Chicago Black Hawks (1955-68) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (1968-69)
    Norris Trophy Winner (1963, 1964, 1965)
    Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (1975)
    He never played his first organized hockey game until he was 17.
    Despite his status as a Hawks legend, he spend his final NHL season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
    He was extremely undersized for a defenseman.
    He notoriously knocked out Maurice and Henri Richard cold during the same game.
    Despite his status as a Chicago legend, his jersey wasn't retired until 40 years after his last game as a member of the team.
    He was a member of the Black Hawks most recent Stanley Cup championship team (1961).
    He had an ironman streak of 348 games from 1956-57 to 1961-62.
    He and Elmer Vasko formed a reliable defensive tandem during the 1960's.
    He was on a postage stamp series issued by Canada Post for their Legends of Hockey series.
    In a classy gesture, the Hawks announced they intended to retire #3 in honor of both Pilote and the late Keith Magnuson in a joint ceremony (2008).
