Boxer

The Resume

    (July 3, 1861-July 13, 1901)
Born in Christanted, Virgin Islands (US)
Australian boxer who fought bare knuckle and gloved styles
Combined record of 47-3-4 with 48 no decisions

Why he might be annoying:

In his time, a fighter usually had to score a knockout to win. As a result of his 102 fights, 48 are listed as no decision.
He didn't take a very good punch, with all three of his losses coming via knockout.
He fought a lot of mediocre opponents including three fights (all no decisions) against Pat Kieley, who never won any of his ten career fights, and once fought a fighter known to history only as Dubbo.
He was rather immodestly known as 'The Black Prince' and 'Peter the Great.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He had a good punch, especially in his right hand, had very good defense for his time, and excellent endurance.
Heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan drew the color line and wouldn't give him a title shot.
He and future heavyweight champion James J. Corbett (and future Sullivan conqueror) fought to a 61 round draw.
He acted in 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' to good reviews.
    He died young from tuberculosis.
