Why she might be annoying
In an effort to show the Nazis were ok with Jews, they asked her to compete in the Berlin Olympics (1936).
Her father was Jewish and her mother a Christian.
Although studying in the U.S., she returned to Germany to be on their Olympic team.
When she won the 1936 Silver Olympic Medal (as obligated), she did give the 'Heil Hitler' salute on the medal platform.

She studied law in the U.S.
She became a U.S. citizen.
She was selected #83 by Sports Illustrated for Women's Century's Greatest Sportswomen.
