The Resume

    (October 27, 1980-May 1, 1987)
    First version ran from October 27, 1980-April 23, 1982
    Second version ran from January 5, 1987-May 1, 1987
Hosted by Bill Cullen (1980-82) and Bill Rafferty (1987)
    Aired on NBC
Premise: one contestant and two family members compete to create a straight path across a board of hexagons by answering trivia questions

Why Blockbusters might be annoying:

The game was unfair, with two contestants competing against one.
The trivia questions were really easy.
Neither version of the show lasted longer than two years.
The slide projection board on the original version often malfunctioned.
The final weeks of the 1987 version essentially became a giant plug for its replacement series.

Why Blockbusters might not be annoying:

It is considered one of the most underrated game shows of all time.
The 1987 version did away with the 'two on one' format to make the game fair.
It was successfully adapted in the UK, where it ran for nearly 30 years.
It often shows up in reruns on GSN.
One contestant's house burned down while he was competing on the show and he wound up winning over $100,000.
