Actor
    (October 26, 1875-December 21, 1958)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Birth name was Henry Byron Charles Stewart Warner-Lickford
Portrayed Jesus Christ in 'The King of Kings' (1927) and Mr. Gower in 'It's A Wonderful Life' (1946)
Also appeared in 'The Lost Paradise' (1914), 'The Seventh Sin' (1917), 'One Hour Before Dawn' (1920), 'Whispering Smith' (1926), 'Lilliom' (1930), 'A Tale of Two Cities' (1935), 'Mr. Deeds Goes to Town' (1936), 'Lost Horizon' (1937), 'You Can't Take It With You' (1938), 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' (1939), 'The Devil and Daniel Webster' (1941), 'Sunset Blvd.' (1950) and 'The Ten Commandments' (1956)
When he appeared in 'King of Kings,' he was ordered not to perform any 'un-Biblical' acts during filming, including attending ball games, playing cards, attending nightclubs, swimming and riding in convertibles.
Despite the agreement, he had an affair with Sally Rand, prompting Cecil B. DeMille to complain, 'Miss Rand, leave my Jesus alone. If you must screw someone, screw Pontius Pilate.'
After 'King of Kings' he was typecast in dignified roles.
While filming the scene in 'It's a Wonderful Life' where Mr. Gower slaps young George Bailey, he actually bloodied actor Bob Anderson's ear.
During filming of 'The King of Kings,' DeMille forbade the rest of the cast and crew from talking to Warner.
He was a favorite of Frank Capra who cast him in five films.
He particularly enjoyed breaking free of his usual role by playing Mr. Gower as an alcoholic bum in the 'Pottersville' segment of 'It's A Wonderful Life.'
