The Resume

    (March 4, 1932-April 3, 1994)
    Born in Coronado, California
Birth name was Franklin G. Wells
Vice Chairman for Warner Bros. (1977-82)
President and Chief Operating Office of The Walt Disney Company (1984-94)
Died in a helicopter crash returning from a ski trip in Nevada (Apr. 3, 1994)
Featured prominently in the award-winning documentary 'Waking Sleeping Beauty' (2009)
Co-wrote 'The Seven Summits' with Richard Bass (1986)

Why he might be annoying:

He reportedly once called Don Hahn at three in the morning to ask what Goofy's original name was (Dippy Dawg incidentally).
He filmed a comic segment for a board meeting in which Michael Eisner pies him in the face as soon as he answers the door.
His untimely death inadvertently sparked a feud within the Disney Company at a time of unprecedented success, specifically between Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg, who badly wanted to succeed him but was denied (Wells was known as a mediator between the two tremendous egos).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an avid mountain climber.
He traced his ancestry back to the Mayflower.
He was good friends with Clint Eastwood, who sang at his funeral.
He was crucial to helping the studio reach its famed 'Renaissance' period of the late eighties/early nineties, although he was overshadowed by his more self-promoting colleagues.
Both 'Waking Sleeping Beauty' and 'The Lion King' are dedicated to his memory.
He very nearly met his goal of climbing the Seven Summits, but only Mt. Everest eluded him (bad weather forced his group to give up 3,000 feet from the top).
The Wells Expedition at Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds is a tribute to his alpinist enthusiasm (he also has a window named for him on Disney's Main Street USA).
