The Resume

    (December 28, 2005-December 29, 2005)
    Born in Redmond, Oregon
Kitten born with holoprosencephaly, a condition caused when a developing embryo's forebrain fails to divide into two hemispheres
Rare prominent feature of the condition is cyclopia - the merging of two eyes into one
Kitten lived for one day with one eye and no nose, dying as a result of the severe deformity
Photo distributed by the Associated Press (January 9, 2006), sparking debate over its authenticity

Why he might be annoying:

He already had a fatal condition - naming him Cy, short for cyclops, is adding insult to a death sentence.
He had no control over being put in the media spotlight, both after birth and after death.
After he died, his owner (Traci Allen) put him in a freezer 'in case scientists would like it for research.'
After Allen stated, 'I’m not going to put it on eBay' and refusing an offer from Ripley's 'Believe It or Not' Museum because she 'didn't want Cy becoming a joke,' she sold him to the Lost World Museum, where a spokesman stated he would be used to help 'present the greatest evidence ever assembled which validates the creation account found in the book of Genesis.' (WTF?)

Why he might not be annoying:

He had one litter mate, who was born normal and healthy.
Allen said she spent all day with him and he took some milk from a syringe, but his condition was 100% fatal, so he had no chance.
Cyclopia occurs in about one of 16,000 animal births, and the victim is usually stillborn, so that he lived 24 hours is beyond miraculous.
AP photo editor Tom Stathis stated he used all modern technology at his disposal before proclaiming the picture to be genuine (including an exam of the original chip in the digital camera), but was still met with huge skepticism.
Local veterinarian Karen Laidley examined him and concluded, 'the body had not been tampered with and was in its natural newborn state,' noting that cyclopia affected other elements of the brain and tissue that led to the animal's eventual death.
Instead of being buried or cremated with dignity, he will be gawked at for years to come.
