She's divorced.
During the Miss World contest, Feminists threw a flour bomb on stage, barely missing host Bob Hope.
There were also objections over South Africa sending two delegates, one white and one black.
Sir Eric Gairy, the Grenadian Prime Minister, sat as one of the judges, leading to charges the pageant was rigged in her favor.

Why she might not be annoying:

She became the first black woman to win a major international beauty title.
Newspapers received hate mail because she and the first runner-up were both women of color.
Grenada issued six stamps bearing her likeness.
