(January 29, 1756-March 25, 1818)

Governor of Virginia and member of US House of Representatives
Why he might be annoying
He was a lawyer in civilian life.
He led the suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion, which was a group of farmers fighting against unfair taxes.
His first wife (he was later widowed) was his second cousin.
Why he might not be annoying
He earned his nickname from his superb horsemanship.
He was an outstanding military leader in his own right, and in Robert E. Lee, fathered one of the greatest military leaders of all time.
He fathered nine children!
Although he served Virginia as governor and congressman, he hated being a politician and served only one term as each.
In 1812, he was badly beaten while defending a friend opposed to the War of 1812 from a mob supporting the war. Ironically, Lee supported the war.
He was the absolute ideal of the Southern gentleman; courageous, honest, hard-working, and devout.
