Baseball Player

The Resume

    (December 21, 1948- )
    Born in Pendleton, Oregon
    Major league baseball player
Played for the University of Southern California in college
Major league teams included the San Francisco Giants (1971-74), New York Mets (1975-77,1981-83), San Diego Padres (1977), California Angels (1977), New York Yankees (1977), Chicago Cubs (1978-80), and Oakland A's (1984-86)
Significant career statistics include 442 home runs, .236 batting average, 1575 hits, 608 walks, and 901 runs

Why he might be annoying:

While he was with the Yankees, someone anonymously sent a female reporter a large cake shaped like a penis; he denied sending it, but bragged that he had posed for it.
In his final year in the majors with Oakland, he sent another female reporter, Sue Fornoff, a live rat with a sign around its neck that said 'My Name is Sue.'
Between his low batting average, mediocre career fielding record, and less than winning personality (which a fellow Met once described as being like a tree trunk) he was never in any danger of getting into the Hall of Fame and with only getting three ballots in his first year of eligibility he was permanently dropped from eligibility for the Hall and is the first hitter of over 400 home runs to not make the Hall.
He was a very average fielder in all three defensive positions he played; left field, first and third base.
When he retired, he was #4 on the all time strikeout list.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a thunderous power hitter with 442 lifetime home runs and a lifetime .478 slugging percentage who once hit a home run that traveled 550 feet.
In 1977, he became one of the few players to play for four teams in one season and is one of the still fewer players to play for the Mets and the Yankees.
He was a good argument for the designated hitter.
He played 16 seasons and 1941 games and lost little time to injuries.
Despite his run ins with female reporters, he stayed out of trouble off the field and kept his private life private.
He had 35 home runs and 94 RBI in his final major league season.
While playing for the Cubs, he hit a three run homer in the 15th inning to lead them to a 10-7 win over the Dodgers (he also had 8 RBIs in the game) launching Tommy Lasorda into a still legendary live over the air (radio) profane tirade when a particularly dumb reporter asked him what he thought of Kingman's performance.
In his first year of college, as a pitcher, he had an ERA of 1.38 and had a slugging percentage of .531 as an everyday player!
    He has an excellent website.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he has a place on his website where you can contact him for good hunting and fishing spots in his beloved native Oregon.
