She was nicknamed the 'Red Volcano' because she had a quick, fiery temper.
For some reason, the Paramount bosses never really liked her so she was dropped from the studio.

Why she might not be annoying:

On June 17, 1937, Jeanette married her only true love, actor Gene Raymond, in a spectacular Hollywood fashion - it was the best attended wedding of that decade. It was a loving marriage that lasted 28 years till her death in 1965.
On May 30, 1953, she was given a honorary degree, 'Doctor of Music' from Ithaca College, New York.
Screen Actors Guild awarded Jeanette the 'Best Performance Award', for Maytime (1937).
She still has a large fan club, 'The Jeanette MacDonald International Fan Club', which meets every year in Los Angeles to pay tribute to the great star.
