    He is a supporter of Mumia Abu-Jamal, Fidel Castro and the American Communist Party.
    He claimed that he was still being blacklisted in the 2000s.
    He got discharged from the Army during WWII by convincing a psychiatrist he was gay.
    He ran for President on Hugh Hefner's Playboy ticket (1960).
    On talk shows, he would constantly overrun his allotted time.
    He was blacklisted during the McCarthy era.
    His refusal to recognize time limits became a part of his act, as his appearances would end with stagehands chasing him off-stage and into the audience.
    Due to poverty, his parents were forced to place him and five siblings in the Hebrew Orphan Asylum of New York.
