As a professional boxer, his career record was a less than impressive six wins, ten losses and one draw.
The New York State Athletic Commission temporarily suspended him for bumping referee Wayne Kelly during the melee that erupted after the July 11, 1996, bout between Andrew Golota and Riddick Bowe. (He claimed he was trying to protect Golota from members of Bowe’s entourage and any contact with the ref was inadvertent.)
He said, ‘I’ll sum up boxing for you in two words: ‘You never know.’’
He trained 19 champions in various weight classes over the years.
He was fiercely devoted to his fighters.
He was one of the few boxing managers not be accused of ripping of his fighters.
