Why he might be annoying
He was schizophrenic.
He married the same woman three times.
He avoided serving time for Evers' murder for three decades.
He boasted about killing Evers at Klan rallies.
He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor of Mississippi (1967).
He served three years in prison for plotting to kill a B'nai Brith director (1977-80) after being caught with guns and dynamite in his car.
While in the prison infirmary, he refused treatment from a black nurse's aide.
Why he might not be annoying
He was orphaned at age five.
He won a Silver Star for his service with the Marines during WWII.
His bragging finally caught up to him, as testimony about his boasts helped convict him of Evers' murder.
James Woods was nominated for an Oscar for portraying him in 'The Ghosts of Mississippi.'
