Outlaw
    (1935-August 23, 2003)
    Fondled/molested/raped over 130 boys
Murdered while in protective custody at Souza-Baranowski Correction Center, northwest of Boston
Murdered by fellow inmate Joseph Druce (2003)
He molested children at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club.
Being an authority figure and under the cloak of trusted religious morality, he abused young boys.
His was the most publicized clergy sexual molestation case.
84 lawsuits were collectively settled by the Boston Archdiocese for $10 million. After legal fees, that is about $50,000 each.
The church threatened to appeal, attempting to drag the cases on for another five years by not accepting the settlement.
It makes people wonder how the archdiocese raised $10 million when donations to the church are supposed to go to the poor.
They claimed the settlement money came from insurance.
In similar cases, the convicted priest offers individual apologies or allows his victims to face him and tell him face to face what he did. Geoghan did neither.
His ten year sentence was for a 1991 incident in which he groped a ten year old boy in a swimming pool (January 2002).
He was defrocked by the Catholic church.
He was sentenced to 10 years for sexually abusing a ten year old boy in 1991 (January 2002).
People have forgotten that the man who murdered him is still a murderer, and not a hero.
Judge Sweeney at the sentencing praised the victims for coming forward and saving other kids from a similar fate.
Convicted murderer Joseph Druce, 37, used a bed sheet to tie him to the cell door and then proceeded to beat him to death.
He died prior to getting his last rites and, according to religious lore, is in Hell.
His case brought to the surface the cover up of the Catholic church on priests who molest children.
His jailing and ultimate murder, hopefully gives some peace to his victims.
His sentencing opened 100s of law suits against Cardinal Bernard F. Law and the Archdiocese.
Instead of his apology, a church spokesperson apologized on behalf of the church, and many of the victims acknowledge that as being helpful.
Hopefully his murder will serve as a lesson to all other pedophiles and rapists.
