Monarch

The Resume

    (August 1, 1893-October 25, 1920)
    Born in Athens, Greece
    King of Greece (1917-20)

Why he might be annoying:

He was basically a rubber stamp for his prime minister.
He caused a scandal when he eloped with a commoner (1919).
He is remembered less for anything he did as king than for his death as a result of being bitten by a monkey.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made a number of morale-building trips to the front lines in World War I.
He was defending his pet dog from an attack when he got bitten.
After his death, his father resumed the throne and involved Greece in a war with Turkey that produced a quarter of a million casualties, prompting Winston Churchill to write, 'It was a monkey bite that caused the death of those 250,000 people.'
