    Survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima as an infant
    Died of leukemia at 12
    Subject of the book and play ‘A Thousand Cranes’

Why she might be annoying:

    People use her death to represent those killed at Hiroshima while ignoring the fact that the bombing of Hiroshima helped end World War II.
    She believed that if she folded a thousand paper cranes she would be healed of her leukemia.
    She only made it to 644 before she died.
    Her father served in the Japanese army, which attacked America in World War II.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was determined to live.
    She was an excellent athlete and a member of the track team.
    She is a symbol of the impact of nuclear war, and all the children killed in Hiroshima.
    Each year children leave folded paper cranes at her memorial in Japan.
    Her grandmother died in the bombing of Hiroshima.
