    (October 26, 1865-April 15, 1912)
    Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Heir to the Guggenheim mining fortune
Father of art patron Peggy Guggenheim
Died in the sinking of the Titanic
He lost a large hunk of his inheritance in bad investments.
He was traveling on the Titanic with his mistress.
He objected to the steward, insisting that he put on a lifebelt.
He gave a survivor the message, 'If anything should happen to me, tell my wife I've done my best in doing my duty.'
He refused to take a space on the lifeboats, saying 'No woman shall be left aboard this ship because Ben Guggenheim was a coward.'
After escorting his mistress and her maid to a lifeboat, he and his valet changed into evening clothes, with Guggenheim commenting 'We've dressed up in our best and are prepared to go down like gentlemen.'
