Ordered the My Lai massacre
Why he might be annoying
He ordered the men of Charlie Company to massacre 109 civilians at My Lai in March 1968.
Among those killed by Calley were women and children.
He was a college drop out.
He did not command any respect from superior or subordinates during his service.
He was called 'glory hungry,' incompetent, and excitable by his comrades.
He yelled a lot.
It is rumored his own soldiers put a bounty on his head.
He was trained as a clerk/typist before going to officer candidate school.
He did not allow his men to give candy to or play with Vietnamese children, because he was afraid of and hated them.
Calley ended up serving only 3 and ½ years of his life sentence, and it was under house arrest.
He was paroled in 1974 and pardoned by President Nixon.
Calley is currently the manager at his father-in-law's jewelry store and has also worked in the insurance industry.
Why he might not be annoying
He was found guilty of 22 acts of premeditated murder, after 79 hours of deliberation.
Many believe Calley was a scapegoat for American military disobedience in Vietnam.
