World Leader

The Resume

    (January 18, 1979- )
    Born in Dublin, Ireland
Member of the Fine Gael Party
Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport (2011-2014)
    Minister for Health (2014-16)
    Minister for Social Protection (2016-17)
Elected leader of Fine Gael (June 2, 2017)
Became Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland (June 14, 2017)

Why he might be annoying:

It was considered a surprise when he was named Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, since he noted, ‘I don’t play the sports.’
Ignoring Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s instructions to ministers not to make negative comments about the economy, he speculated that Ireland might need a second bailout, causing a brief flurry on international financial markets (2012).
He complained that being named a cabinet minister ruined his social life: 'It's very hard to go out because I'm just too fecking well-known.'
In the election for leader of Fine Gael, he actually received fewer votes than Simon Coveney, but won because the system weights votes of members of Parliament more heavily.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is a licensed physician.
The Irish Times said he was ‘an unusual politician’ because ‘he has a high IQ and a small ego.’
    He became Ireland’s youngest Taoiseach.
He is also the first openly gay Taoiseach, and the first one of Indian descent.
He said about being gay, ‘it’s not something that defines me. I'm not a half-Indian politician, or a doctor politician or a gay politician for that matter. It’s just part of who I am.’
