Who would ever imagine that a catalog lingerie company would be a man's idea?
The name Victoria came from Queen Victoria - really!
After he sold Victoria's Secret, he started another company My Child's Destiny which failed and bankrupted him.
Seven years after his the failure of his second business, he committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.
He left behind two teenage children at the time of his death.
He started Victoria's Secret in 1977 out of his hesitancy to buy his wife lingerie in department stores.
Five years after the inception, the lingerie company expanded to six stores and annual sales of $6 million; he eventually sold Victoria's Secret to The Limited for $4 million.
He graduated Tufts University and studied at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
His first business has become an iconic institution in the fashion industry.
The catalogs have remained very popular and has launched the modeling careers of Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Selita Ebanks, Marissa Miller, Gisele Bundchen and added to the portfolios of established models such as Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Helena Christensen and Stephanie Seymour.
