Why Hawaii Five-0 might be annoying:

Gregory Peck turned down the lead role of McGarrett.
There were endless utterings of 'Book 'em, Danno!'
McGarrett was getting a little too chummy with his secretary in the first season (calling her 'Love'), so she was replaced with a 'Plain Jane' (or more accurately, 'Jenny').
Chin Ho Kelly was murdered in the 10th season. It's the only time McGarrett personally booked the murder suspect.
It's been said Jack Lord is the only cast member to stay for all 12 seasons, but Richard Denning, who played the governor of Hawaii, was there for the duration.
McGarrett's arch enemy, Wo Fat (Khigh Dhiegh) was finally caught after 11 previous failures. This was in the final episode, and showed him reaching into his boot and pulling out a file (don't they 'search 'em Danno?').
The actors who played Duke and Ben both appeared in different roles on the show before settling into their regular roles.
Some people to this day believe the Hawaiian police force is called Five-0, when in reality Hawaii is the only state that has no state police agency.

Why Hawaii Five-0 might not be annoying:

The entire series was filmed on location in Hawaii, often using locals (native Hawaiians, Chinese and Japanese) as extras.
Both Jack Lord and his character McGarrett were U.S. Navy veterans.
Jokes at McGarrett's expense were made liberally by the audience about how he never smiles (and how his hair would snap off if he ever did).
The Ventures hit #4 on Billboard's Top 40 with the theme from the show (1969).
Kam Fong actually served in the Honolulu Police Department (1946-62). After he left the show, he once made a 'tongue-in-cheek' gubernatorial bid, using the campaign slogan 'Give a damn -- Vote for Kam!'
So why 'Danno?' James MacArthur explained: 'Jack said something like, 'Go down there, Danno,' and I just stopped and said, 'Danno? Who's Danno?' We cut and Jack said, 'You know, I had a friend named Dan when I was a kid, and we used to call him Danno,' and the next thing you know ... It was really Jack's invention.'
Captain Stubing of 'The Love Boat' (Gavin MacLeod) played a pimp in a few episodes called Big Chicken.
There was talk of having McGarrett appear in some episodes of 'Magnum P.I.' (also filmed in Hawaii). Thankfully, Jack Lord retired from acting after the series so it never came to fruition.
Another refreshing non-event, Don Ho was not cast in a single episode.
The show is the longest running police drama series in television history - 12 years.
Movie rights have been worked out between CBS and the creator of the program's widow. The Hawaii Five-0 movie is set for filming and release in 2006.
