    Recorded the #1 country singles 'I'm Moving On' (1950), 'The Golden Rocket' (1950), 'Rhumba Boogie' (1951), 'I Don't Hurt Anymore' (1954), 'Let Me Go, Lover!' (1954), 'I've Been Everywhere' (1962) and 'Hello Love' (1974)
    Had 80 other singles make the Billboard country chart
    Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (1979)

    He made his professional debut in blackface in a minstrel show.
    He changed his name when a radio announcer suggested ‘Hank’ would sound more country than ‘Clarence.’
    His first radio show was sponsored by a laxative, Crazy Water Crystals.

    He made an unsuccessful attempt to break into movies as a singing cowboy.
    He performed at campaign stops for presidential candidate George Wallace (1968).
