    Chief Justice of the United States (March 8, 1796-December 15, 1800)
    He favored the 3/5ths compromise.
    He wore girlish wigs.
    He opposed the abolition of foreign slave trade.
    He was good buddies with Alexander Hamilton.
    He supported the national debt.
    He did nothing noteworthy as a Chief Justice.
    He hung out with Napoleon in France as a commissioner while he served on the Supreme Court.
    At one point in his law career, he was involved in every major court case involving Connecticut.
    He drafted the Judiciary Act of 1789 which set up the U.S. court system as we know it today.
    He was a skilled public debater.
    He, along with Roger Sherman, forged the Connecticut Compromise which created the House of Representatives and the Senate.
    It was his support of the Constitutional Convention that swung Connecticut to favor it.
    He devised plans that paved the way for North Carolina and Rhode Island to join the Union.
    He was one of the first two senators of Connecticut.
    He called for the change of the word 'national' in the Articles of Confederation to 'United States' essentially naming the country.
