Made his debut with the English team in 1988, against Saudi Arabia
Announced retirement (January 13, 2004)

Why he might be annoying:

He lost his last game.
Due to shoulder pain, he could only play in that final game for the first 13 minutes.
It took him quite a while to realize that his reflexes were slipping due to age and injury.
A defensive blunder (against Brazil) on his part ended England's World Cup illusions in 2002.

Why he might not be annoying:

He's considering becoming a goal keeping coach.
He publicly apologized to his fans for the mistake that caused England to get eliminated from the 2002 World Cup.
He'll go down in history as one of England's best goalkeepers.
